Prof. Shein-Chung Chow from Duke University visits SPU

From June 7thto 8th, Shein-Chung Chow, professor in Biological Information Statistics Department of Duke University and a member of U.S. FDA paid a visit to SPU and delivered lectures. Chow made a report entitled“Assessing Biosimilarity and Interchangeability: Issues and Recent Development”. Cai Hongyu, director of Division of International Exchanges, Li Zhe, CPC Committee Secretary of Faculty of Medical Devices attended the report, which was hosted by Xiang Rongwu, vice dean of Faculty of Medical Devices.

Professor Chow shared the latest research progress, front field as well as his standard and research results in biosimilarity. At the same time, as for future development, he shared the views exchanged with the State Food and Drug Administration leaders, in order to promote domestic development and fill the gaps.The report is conducive to teachers and students, helping them better understand biological similar drugs which is a newly emerging field, accumulate their scientific research and innovation experience in new drug research and development, quality control of generic drugs. After the meeting, Professor Chow, accompanied by Xiang Rongwu, visited the new campus and the 10-year achievement exhibition of Chinese medicine resources.

This visit promoted mutual understanding between SPU and international well-known universities, reached further consensus concerning new research methods, new standards, new system in the field of international bio-similar drug quality control. It has provided new ideas and new methods for the future development of new drug research and development, bioinformatics and statistics field, and laid a solid foundation for further expanding and deepening international cooperation.

Since 2005, Shein-Chung Chow, a professor of bioinformatics at School of Medicine, Duke University , acted as director of the Institute of Clinical Research at Duke University, co-director of the AIDS Institute of Duke University, technical adviser to the US Federal Government, member of the US Food and Drug Administration, and director of the China Center for International Clinical Trials and other duties. Part-time academic titles include: editor or deputy editor for 25 periodicals such asAmerican Statistical Association,International Statistical Institute,International Chinese Statistical Association,Drug Information Association,Society for Clinical Trials,AAPS. He published a variety of textbooks, more than 30 works, over 300 papers, and made reports for more than 160 times at state-level and above conference. He can skillfully apply such software as SAS, SPSS, BMDP, Minitab, PASS, IMS Routines to conduct statistical analysis in the field of bioinformation.
