Queen's University Belfast Delegation visits SPU

On June 4th, SPU played host toa 5-member University team led by Prof. David Jones, the Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast (Queen's ), members including Prof. Carmel Hughes (head of Faculty of Pharmacy), Prof. Gavin Andrews(director of Pharmaceutical Science), Prof. David Rooney ( from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) and Dr. Zhao Min (senior Queen’s scientist from School of Pharmacy). A discussion has been made on collaboration and partnership between the two universities.

Vice principal of SPU, Prof. Cheng Maosheng met with the team and introduced the history, size, professional ranking and research achievements of SPU. David Jones expressed thanks to SPU’s invitation and briefed on the Queen’s. Prof. Hughes and Prof. Andrews made an introduction of major specialty in the School of Pharmacy, four-year pharmaceutical master education program and employment prospect respectively. Under the support from twin-city governments of Belfast and Shenyang, both universities hoped to have a further collaboration in teaching and scientific research and establish a joint lab. Afterwards, two parts exchanged the memorandums of collaboration agreement and posed for photographs. Cai Hongyu, Director of International Exchange Division, and He Zhonggui, Yantze River Scholar and a leading scientist in pharmaceutical science, were also present at the meeting.

Founded in 1845, Queen's University Belfast, highly respected across Europe as a public research intensive university, ranks among top 100 renowned universities in the globe. As one of the most historical universities in Ireland and UK, it is known for teaching and academic excellence, which boasts of the most excellent medical school and engineering school, and of Queen’ Management School among the top list. It is one of UK top 10 leading research intensive university and a part of the prestigious Russell Group of the UK’s famous Ivy League schools.

It is the first time for the Queen’s to pay a visit to SPU since the memorandums were signed, which not only promotes mutual understanding in pharmaceutical science between SPU and world famous universities, but also enhances SPU’s reputation worldwide, laying a solid foundation for further international cooperation.
